Swiss-born Andreas Christen attended the Kunstgewerbe-Schule to study design. He launched his design firm in Zurich in 1960. Christen began his affiliation with Knoll International in 1967 for an office landscape system.1 The Christen Office System included a rectangular table desk with two drawer pedestals available separately, square and round tables, desks and extensions, machine stations, storage units and related accessories.2 The Knoll online archives states the Crhisten Office System was first available in 1972 and remained in the catalog for several years. The square and round tables, however, remained in production but only the round tables were offered through 1984.3
Of interest to collectors today is the rectangular table desk No. 3602 (30”x60”x28.5”h), No. 3603 (30”x60”x25.5”h), No. 3605 (32”x74”x28.5”h) and No. 3606 (32”x74”x25.5”h). The 36″, 42″ and 48″ round tables were the last Andreas Christen designs offered by Knoll.
