Anthony Young is a 1975 graduate of Pratt Institute and holds a Bachelor of Industrial Design. While attending Pratt he worked two summers in the design studio of Charles Pollock. Upon graduating, he moved to Connecticut and worked for several design offices in Fairfield County.
In 1981, Young moved to Florida and transitioned to electro-mechanical design working primarily as a contract designer. He began freelance writing articles and in 1984 published his first book on the history of Dodge and Plymouth performance cars. This was followed by ten more published automotive titles over the next twenty years.
In 2005, he began researching the design of the Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle and had the opportunity to interview Capt. David R. Scott, Commander of Apollo 15, Capt. John Young, Commander of Apollo 16 and Capt. Eugene Cernan, Commander of Apollo 17. Lunar and Planetary Rovers – The Wheels of Apollo and the Quest for Mars was published by Springer/Praxis in 2007. This was followed by The Saturn V F-1 Engine – Powering Apollo into History published by Springer/Praxis in 2009. Aerospace engineering history is as interesting to Young as is the history of industrial design.
After acquiring a Max Pearson No. 1816 swivel armchair, a Morrison-Hannah No. 2041 armchair and a McCoy-Fahnstrom Bulldog chair, Young began documenting out of production Knoll furniture from the second half of the 20th century. Current production chairs used daily include the Pollock executive armchair, a Life chair, a Regeneration chair and a fully-upholstered Regeneration chair.
Anthony Young lives in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
